IndoAutomotive 2009 Shown Promising Signs for Industry
(Published in Autoparts Magazine, October 2009 Issuance, page # 72)
During August 12 – 15, 2009, the 2nd Indonesian Automotive Parts and Accessories Exhibition 2009 successfully held at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran. As the major event in the automotive spare parts and accessories industry, it received massive media coverage of over 100 newspapers, magazines, websites, TVs, radios and so on.
The organizer has based its predictions response to the first show. 76% of the exhibitors achieved their goals at the show and 82% immediately decided to attend the next one.
Among satisfied exhibitors at 2009 was Mr. Rony Pranoto, Engineer Manager of Laksana Teknik Makmur, PT “Participating this event make our company more be known by other companies and enhance out network to new customer and distributor. We confirmed to join in the next IndoAutomotive.” And also stated by Mr. Kelvin Chong, Senior BD Manager, Juken Technology from Singapore “This is good opportunity to understand the local market and get a feel about country and culture.”
IndoAutomotive returns at an opportune time for the country’s automotive sector, which saw a strong rebound in production of 2008 and is forecast for further growth. Consultant Business Monitor International (BMI) forecasts positive growth to be sustained through to 2012, and also expects production to receive a fillip from potential major investment.
Renault, for example has approached the Indonesian investment authorities with plans for a potential US$600 million plant, which would become the carmaker’s South East Asia production hub. General Motors (GM) is also considering Indonesia for a new plant for its Chevrolet models, while South Korea’s Hyundai has invested in a commercial vehicles joint venture and Japan’s Toyota is also boosting production.
Consequently, BMI expects Indonesia automobile production to surpass 500,000 units by 2010, rising to just short of 625,000 by 2012. Increased production activities should also give rise to the market’s growing export industry, which BMI expects to account for over 30% of domestic automotive production by the end of the forecast period.
Indonesia is also expecting strong investment in the motorcycle sector, which turned out at estimated 4.6 million units in 2008. Multinational motorcycle manufacturers such as Yamaha will invest an estimated total of around $250 million in 2009 to boost production capabilities. (*)

Press Release
INDOAUTOMOTIVE 2011
The 4th Indonesian Automotive Components, Spare Parts & Accessories Exhibition
25 – 28 May 2011
Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran
August 2010
PRESS RELEASE #1
STAY CURRENT WITH THE LEADING AUTOMOTIVE SHOW IN INDONESIA
IndoAutomotive 2011 enters its 4th edition as the highly anticipated Automotive Show in Indonesia. Helmed by veteran Trade Organizer, PT Wahana Kemalaniaga Makmur (WAKENI), with 19 years of experience, IndoAutomotive 2011 features the most current and recent in automotive components of cars and motorcycles. The year’s lineup includes a first time feature of a motorcycle segment. Buoyed by confidence boosts of the economy, IndoAutomotive 2011 embarks on a mission to bring the best exhibition ever presented.
Forecast for Indonesia 2011
Indonesia’s central bank raised its 2011 economic growth forecast to as much as 6.5 percent from an earlier forecast of as much as 6 percent as consumer spending accelerates. Gross domestic product is projected to increase by between 6 percent and 6.5 percent next year. The central bank raised its estimate for 2010 growth to 5.6 percent from 5.2 percent.
Opportunities Abound for Foreign Investors
With the saturation of the markets in the western world, companies are turning their attention to the Asian region to grow their businesses. The automotive industry is growing at an unprecedented speed in the Asian region. China, India and Asean (Association for South East Asian Nations) countries have been identified to be driving markets for the industry. AFTA or Asean Free Trade Area is a huge contributing factor.
Indonesian with 240million in population figures holds tremendous amount of potential for the foreign investor. Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia are potential markets. Cheap financing, rising income levels and infrastructure developments will drive the growth in the majority of the Asian automotive markets. The size of the domestic market is reason enough for the discerning foreign investor. Markets remain virtually untapped in many rural and suburban areas.
Indonesia's largest automotive distributor, PT Astra International Tbk for Toyota expects record high 2010 car and motorcycle sales as consumer demand increases. Astra now expects domestic vehicle sales to be above 600,000 units this year, an increase from a previous forecast of 520,000 to 530,000 units, and 23 percent higher than 2009 sales. The positive outlook is prevalent across major players in the industry. Analysts believe vehicle sales will rise more than 11 percent in 2010, said Bambang Trisulo, chairman of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
Motorcycle Industry in Indonesia
In Indonesia, the motorcycle is still a preferred mode of transportation as it is both cheap and easy to maneuver, both in urban and rural areas. In 2008 the motorcycle industry enjoyed brisk sales. Prospects in the year 2009 continued to be good. Global recession since early 2008 did not affect the demand for motorcycle because purchasing power continued to be good through 2009 and the first quarter of 2010.
National motorcycle industry continues to experience growth, driven by the low cost of ownership and the flexibility and ease of riding a motorbike. The lack of an integrated mass transportation system works well for motorcycle industry. Ownership ratio in Indonesia is still relatively low and market penetration shows tremendous potential considering Indonesia’s huge 240 million population. This has encouraged the growth of production capacity.
In the year 2008, sales of motorcycles reached more than 6 million units - a record for motorcycle sales. Growth continued to be outstanding at 33.2 percent. 2009, 2010 and 2011 are widely expected to be trending upwards.
The rationale for a new segment cannot be at a more appropriate time and place. IndoAutomotive 2011 brims with anticipation and excitement in this newly created feature of the motorcycle industry.
Conclusion
Against the backdrop of positive sentiments and the outlook for the economy looking set to be soon on the upswing, IndoAutomotive 2011 is gearing up with accelerated enthusiasm to present the most current and recent offerings in the automotive industry and motorcycle trade.

PRESS RELEASE#1
All Geared Up to Accelerate
2010 AutomotiveBusiness Gains in Indonesia Market through IndoAutomotive 2010
Indonesia’s Economic Background
After four straight quarters of decline, the US economy is deemed ‘out of woods’ according to an influential survey of economists, The Straits Times reported on 14 October by Reuters, Washington. The rest of the world awaits with anticipation the promise of a healthy and robust 2010.
The Indonesia’s economy held its own and weathered the past recession months and against all odds grew at the fastest pace against the other South East Asian Economies in the first quarter of 2009. The predicted growth according to IMF is set to be around 2.5 % for the whole year.
In a Kontan report on November 25, 2009, the Secretary General of the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industry - Freddy A. Sutrisno recorded that 389,771 units of car has sold until October 2009. "We believe automobile market in 2010 can reach 555,000 unit sales". This prediction is 23.3% higher than the real car sales which predicted will reach 450,000 unit sales until end of this year. The Chairman of Indonesian Motorcycles Industry Association – Gunadi Sindhuwinata recorded the motorcycles sales until October 2009 is 4,753,478 units.
Compared to 2008, car production reached 600,884 units and motorcycles 6,264,665 units. In spite of the slowing down of the world economy, the automotive industry is able to sustain an 8 per cent growth rate. The slowing down of car sales spells good news for the after sales market of automotive parts and accessories as older cars are more maintenance and replacement intensive. This sector is poised for greater sales and even greater potential growth as an increase in maintenance, repairs and replacement needs of older cars is synonymous to greater demand for parts and accessories. Companies are geared up for increases in sales revenue and profitability.
Confidence and optimism reign in the Automotive Industry. Major international companies are showing their confidence in Indonesia through their hefty investments in setting up factories and workshops. China’s automotive Geely International Corporation has decided to market Geely MK and CK. In Tempo report on November 2, 2009, the President Director of PT. Geely Mobil Indonesia (the single agent of Geely’s brand holder in Indonesia) – Budi Pramono said that PT. GMI imported Geely MK and CK completely knock down. The component of the car then assembled by PT. Gaya Motor.
